Civil Engineering is a Professional Engineering discipline and it is the Mother branch of Engineering that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works such as bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings. It is traditionally broken into several sub-disciplines including Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Materials Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Surveying, and Construction Engineering.

The course outline of civil field programmes gives the fundamental knowledge and flexibility as it has different types of work to do like designing, surveying and maintaining a structure, as well as it provides a better future for civil engineers. The purpose of this course is to make students learn to natural resources with preventing the environment.The principle educational objective of our department is to provide the students with fundamental and high tech knowledge and the skills needed to resolve the problems related to construction and maintenance of infrastructure in harmony with the society and environment.

Surveying Lab

The survey lab is used for surveying exercises and is equipped with all latest instrumentation viz levels, total stations, and GPS receivers sets for conducting ground surveying works.

Equipment- theodolite, total station , auto level , plain tables , various types of campass and chain etc

  1. Study of different types of topographical maps and to prepare conventional symbols chart.
  2. To measure bearings of a closed traverse by prismatic compass and to adjust the traverse by graphical method.
  3. To find out reduced levels of given points using dumpy/Auto level.
  4. To perform fly leveling with a Auto /tilting level.
  5. To study parts of a vernier / Electronic theodolite and practice for taking angle measurements.
  6. To measure vertical angle of given points by Electronic theodolite.
  7. To measure horizontal angle between two objects by repetition method with three repetitions.
  8. To measure horizontal angle by method of reiteration
  9. To determine the elevation of chimney top by trigonometrical levelling by taking observations in single vertical plane.
  10. To set out a simple circular curve by Rankine‟s method.

Transportation lab consists of equipment used in the testing of bituminous materials such as viscosity, ductility and plasticity and other devices for testing of bitumen and aggregates. There are other devices for mix design Marshall Methods.

For studying hydraulics and hydraulic Machines, one need to understand concepts, which can be easily taught and understood by proper laboratory dedicated to this subject. In our college we have enough numbers of experimental set up which will help students to strengthen their hydraulics’ concepts.

Industrial Visit to Dam site of Vishnugad Hydro Power Project, THDC, Pipalkoti

A educational trip was organized by Civil Engineering Department in coordination with internship cell on 10 & 11 March, 2018 to Dam site of Vishnugad Hydro Power Project, THDC, Pipalkoti. Group of 30 students accompanied by 2 faculties (Mr. Sumit Juyal & Mr. Ved Prakash) visited the on day 1. On day 2 students were accompanied by Mr. Lalit Kumar and Mr. Abhishek Agrawal. At the dam site these groups were briefed about the construction work and state of art practices in Dam and Tunnel construction by Mr. Hardev Pant (Sr. Manager) and Mr. Girdhari Lal (Manager) of THDC.
